About this verse
Al-Fatiha, "The Opening", is the first surah of the Quran and is recited in every unit of every prayer. It is also called Umm al-Kitab, the Mother of the Book.
Its seven verses move from praise of Allah to a direct request for guidance, which makes it one of the most meaningful complete surahs to keep in view.
