About this verse
Ayat-e-Karima is the supplication of Prophet Yunus (Jonah), made from the darkness inside the whale: "There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers."
A hadith in Sunan at-Tirmidhi describes it as a supplication that no Muslim makes for anything without Allah responding. In Pakistan and across South Asia, families often gather to recite it together in large numbers.
